Sandypalooza is a pre-season volunteer weekend open to the entire Sandy Island Camp Community. It is a chance for us to come together and lend our time, talent, and brawn in support of this special place that we all love so much! It is a weekend in keeping with the very best of the Spirit of Sandy. In 2025 Sandypalooza is taking place the weekend of May 16-18. We will once again come together to maintain the island’s beauty, preserve the timelessness of camp and strengthen our community relationships.
Sandypalooza projects will include things like clearing brush from trails, chopping and stacking fire wood, raking copious amounts of leaves, and the spring cleaning of camper common areas like sandwall lodge and the craftshop – to name a few. There are opportunities for campers of all ages to help get ready for an amazing 2025 season. Campers will receive their shift assignments in advance of arriving to help plan ahead for the weekend.
Expect to volunteer for at least two of three shifts: Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Expect several favorite Sandy traditions: a campfire and s’mores on Friday evening and (of course!) a Sandy dance on Saturday evening. Your $45 registration fee will help cover dining, staffing expenses and T-shirts. Registration fee applies to all campers 9 years old and over. Volunteers taking on the role of “Project Champion” will be eligible for a 100% credit of their registration fees. Anyone interested in becoming a Project Champion should email Angelo Firenze at afirenze@ymcaboston.org .
Children are welcome, with the understanding that this weekend focuses on work and stewardship. We plan to have adults leading kid-friendly activities for children between 6 and 13 years old on Saturday morning.
May 16 – May 18, 2025! Catch the Big Sandy from North Woods on Friday at 2:00, 5:00, 7:00 or 8:00 and return to the mainland after lunch on Sunday at 12:00, 1:00 or 2:00.
The magic of Sandy doesn’t happen without hard work and commitment.
Thank you for giving back to our community.
