Become a Host Family for a Tokyo YMCA Camper

The YMCA of Greater Boston Overnight Camps branch has enjoyed welcoming campers from Tokyo, Japan since 2019. These campers come from all age levels and travel with 1 or 2 staff members from their home country. Their goal is for the kids to have an “American Experience”. Part of that experience involves spending time with an American family. The YMCA Overnight Camps branch is looking for up to 12 families with kids who attend either Pleasant Valley or North Woods camp, to host a camper or staff member for 2 nights prior to camp. This is an opportunity for you and your family to show this camper what life is like in your area. We would like to make certain that the host family has kids home during this time, but not necessarily going to session 4. If you live near the ocean, you could enjoy a day at the beach together. Do you live near a lake or local farm? We’ll leave it up to you how you spend the one full day. We simply ask that your family show them a good time.

Friday, August 2nd Tokyo campers will arrive in the evening and will need to be picked up.

Saturday, August 3rd is a whole day to spend with your family doing typical American family activities and hopefully something fun!

Sunday, August 4th is when camp starts for this camper. We ask that you either bring them up to camp with your camper or to the Camp Bus leaving from the Boston area.

If you think your family would like to be part of this opportunity, we would like to hear from you! Please complete the Host Family Interest Form to start the ball rolling and to see if your family is a good fit for this job.
